Playing Letterlicious often? Try for the Champion of the Month!
Congratulations if you are on this page

Can't play every day? Don't worry, monthly scores are the best 20 games per month.
This means you can continue to improve your score but not be penalised if you can't play as often as everyone else. If you play less than 20 you might still get on the leader board.

"Rating" Explained

I am experimenting with a player rating system like the ELO in chess but suitable for single player games and comparing scores.

Your rating reflects your consistent relative performance across all puzzles you've played since Jan 1st 2025 (about 13 months as of time of writing) — Not just raw scores (since Letterlicous can daily difficulty), but how well you do compared to everyone else who tackled the same puzzle on the same day. (Needs to be 5 or more submissions).

For each day, scores are normalized (using average and standard deviation) to measure your standing in the field that day. This normalized performance is converted to an "effective score" (0–1 scale) via a smooth curve that slightly rewards top finishes more than linear placement. Your overall rating starts around 1500 for average performers and moves up/down based on these daily results (higher = stronger consistent skill).

I still have to figure out a daily scheduled database task to update the rating. Currently all puzzles finished count the same but other leader boards have ways to decay historical games to bias new ones. Your suggestions appreciated. None of this is fixed in stone (except the displayed rating while I do part 2)

Congratulations for completing so many games and being rated at all.
